One Owner Action Item Rule means every action item leaves a meeting with exactly one accountable owner. A group can help, review, or approve. But if the action item is assigned to a department, channel, or “everyone,” it often becomes nobody’s job. A clear action item should include: Verb: what must be done. Owner: the person responsible for moving it. Output: the artifact or state that proves it happened. Check date: when the team will ask about progress. Dependency: who or what may block it. This rule is not about blame. It is about making follow-up possible without replaying the whole meeting.
