# Shorts vs Long-Form Revenue Planning Note

Shorts and long-form videos can both support a creator business, but they usually do different jobs. Treating them as the same monetization channel leads to confused planning. A revenue planning note should separate reach, audience depth, ad model, conversion path, and production cadence.

## 1. Define the job of each format
Shorts often work as discovery, repetition, and lightweight audience testing. Long-form videos often support explanation, trust, search, and deeper intent. This is a tendency, not a rule. The planning note should state what the creator expects each format to do.

## 2. Separate platform revenue from downstream revenue
A Short may earn platform revenue, but it may also push viewers to long-form videos, newsletters, products, or communities. Long-form may monetize through ads and also through affiliate links or sponsorship. Keep these rows separate.

## 3. Check eligibility and modules
Revenue depends on program eligibility and feature activation. Do not compare channels without noting which monetization features were available during the period.

Compare series to series, not one viral Short to an average long-form video. Outliers distort planning. Group content by topic, format, and audience intent.

## 5. Planning question
Ask: does this format create more reach, more trust, more conversion, or more retention? If the answer is only “views,” the revenue plan is incomplete.
