Source Update to Correction Loop

A claim-level source trail records which specific claim a source supports, when it was checked, and what part of the source was used. This is more durable than a generic bibliography because it keeps each link attached to a testable statement.

Start by writing the claim in one sentence. Avoid saving a source before knowing what it proves. “This API supports cursor pagination” is a claim. “API docs” is only a topic. A claim-level record should be narrow enough that another person can verify it in a few minutes.

Next, record the source identity. Store the title, URL, publisher, visible publication date, visible updated date, and the date you checked it. If the page has no visible update date, say so. Do not invent one from the browser cache or from memory. The absence of a date is itself useful because it tells future readers to recheck more carefully.

Then quote or summarize only the supporting part in your own note. Keep the excerpt short and attach your interpretation separately. This helps avoid a common problem: the source is copied into a note, but no one knows which line supports the claim.

Add a stability label. Some claims are stable, such as historical dates or definitions from versioned documents. Others are volatile, such as prices, product limits, app behavior, policy wording, model names, exchange rates, legal thresholds, or documentation examples. Volatile claims need shorter recheck intervals.

Finally, add a correction route. If the source changes, what record should be updated: a wiki, a node, a product page, a comparison table, a help answer, or a public post? Without a correction route, source checking becomes private bookkeeping. With a route, it becomes maintenance.
