Streak debt is the gap between a visible consecutive-day count and the actual practice quality that the count seems to imply. It appears when a learner, worker, reader, or app user protects the number by doing rushed, very easy, unrelated, or rescued work. The streak may still be useful as a habit signal, but it no longer proves the underlying skill received enough attention. A small amount of streak debt is normal. Travel, illness, device sharing, weak signal, and schedule changes can all make a perfect daily record unrealistic. The problem starts when the product or record hides the debt so well that the next session cannot tell what needs repair. Useful records separate three fields: - continuity: whether the person returned or restored the streak - substance: what kind of work actually happened - repair: what should be checked or practiced next The term is useful for learning apps, fitness trackers, reading goals, creator calendars, and workplace routines. It should not be used to shame missed days. It is a way to keep a motivating streak from replacing the question that matters: what still needs a real session?
