A stockout notice is a short customer-facing explanation that says an item is unavailable, what changed, and what the customer can do next. The useful notice is specific without overexplaining. It names the item or category, whether the stockout is temporary, whether reservations or substitutions are available, and where customers should check for updates. If the store has multiple pickup points, delivery zones, or branches, the notice should say which location is affected. A good notice protects trust. Customers usually understand that popular items sell out; they become frustrated when the website, map listing, social post, and staff answer disagree. The notice should therefore use the same wording across the product page, phone script, review reply, and in-store sign. Avoid vague lines such as “currently unavailable” when the next step matters. Better wording is: “The 500g roasted bean bag is sold out at the Gangnam pickup shelf today. The 200g bag is available, and the next 500g roast is expected Friday afternoon.” The practical boundary: do not promise a restock date unless the store can actually keep it. If the date is uncertain, say what will trigger the next update instead.
