Source Freshness Window is the time range within which a source can still be treated as current for a specific claim. It is not a universal expiration date. A building address may remain valid for years, while a product price, API field, or policy threshold may be stale within days. ## Definition A freshness window records how quickly the underlying fact is likely to change and how much harm a stale citation would cause. It turns vague wording like “recently checked” into a practical rule: this source is acceptable for this claim until a certain type of change is likely enough to require re-checking. ## Use Case The concept is useful for reference pages, comparison notes, public explainers, and correction trails. A guide about airport terminals may need a medium window because construction and airline counters move. A legal or tax threshold needs a short window. A historical definition can use a long window if the claim is about meaning rather than current status. ## Boundary Freshness is not the same as authority. An official source can still be stale for a fast-moving page if the page has not been updated. A community report can be fresh but not authoritative. Good source trails label both qualities separately. ## Practical Interpretation When adding a citation, write one quiet note: “checked for current threshold,” “used for definition only,” or “route detail may change.” That note helps later readers know whether they need to verify the same fact again or only preserve the citation history.
