A source freshness note records how recently a cited page, document, dataset, or official notice was updated and whether that date matters for the claim being made. Not every old source is weak. A historical definition, archived manual, or stable standard may remain useful for years. But a pricing page, API behavior, local rule, immigration requirement, software version, safety recommendation, or product comparison can become misleading if the reader cannot see when it was checked. Freshness is therefore a relevance question, not a decoration. A useful note includes the source title, publisher or maintainer, visible update date, access date, affected claim, and freshness risk. For example, “official page updated May 2026; claim about application fee depends on current amount” is more useful than “source checked.” If the source has no visible update date, say that explicitly and record the access date. The boundary is that freshness does not prove correctness. A page can be new and wrong, or old and still authoritative. The note only tells future readers whether time-sensitive claims need another check before reuse.
