A source freshness note is a short statement that tells readers when a source was checked and what kind of change would make the note worth reviewing again. The note is useful when the cited material can change: search guidance, browser support tables, policy pages, health information, product help centers, or legal pages. A plain link says where the information came from. A freshness note says how current the reader should assume that link is. A good note has three parts: checked date, source type, and review trigger. For example, “Checked on 25 June 2026 against the official browser compatibility table; review again when the feature status or supported browser list changes.” That is more useful than “source: MDN” because it tells a later reader what to verify. The boundary is important. A freshness note is not a claim that the content will stay correct. It is a small audit trail. If the source has a published review rhythm, such as a page last reviewed date or next review due date, include that. If the source is continuously updated, explain the trigger instead of pretending there is a stable edition. Use this note when a reader may act on timing, compatibility, policy status, or eligibility. Skip it for timeless definitions where the cited source is only background reading.
