A source freshness date is the date when a summary, comparison, or claim was last checked against the source it depends on. It is different from the publication date. A report may have been published in March, updated in May, and reviewed by a writer in June. If those dates are collapsed into one line, readers may misunderstand whether the source itself changed or whether the summary was simply rechecked. A useful freshness note separates the source publication date, source update date, retrieval date, and summary review date. The use case is any page where old evidence can still look current: product comparisons, policy summaries, government PDFs, statistics, pricing pages, API documentation, and medical or legal explainers that point readers back to primary material. The freshness date gives readers a quick way to judge whether they should rely on the summary, open the source, or search for newer material. The boundary is that a freshness date is not a promise that nothing has changed after that day. It is a transparent review marker. Practical interpretation: place the date near the claim or source trail, not only at the bottom, when the claim can go stale.
