RPM drop triage is the practice of separating a revenue-per-thousand decline into its components before assuming a single cause. It checks estimated earnings, page views or impressions, click-through rate, ad coverage, traffic mix, policy status, and comparison period before deciding whether the issue is demand, traffic quality, layout, seasonality, or measurement noise. Google AdSense Help defines RPM as estimated earnings per 1000 page views, impressions, or queries, and notes that RPM does not represent actual earned revenue by itself. That matters because a lower RPM can come from lower estimated earnings, a changed denominator, a different traffic source, fewer valuable geographies, fewer matched ads, or unusual invalid-traffic filtering. A useful triage note includes date range, previous comparison range, report type, page views, impressions, clicks, CTR, estimated earnings, RPM, countries, devices, top pages, ad units, policy warnings, ads.txt status, and major content or traffic changes. It should avoid guaranteed explanations such as “the niche is dead” or “one ad network is broken” until the denominator and traffic mix are checked. The goal is not to predict revenue. The goal is to create a clean incident-style note for creators: what changed, which metric moved first, what stayed stable, and which evidence should be collected next.
