Opening Proof is a short record made while a package is first being opened, before the item is moved, repacked, cleaned up, or argued about. It is most useful when a buyer later claims that a part was missing, a seal was already broken, or an item arrived damaged. It is not a demand that every normal purchase become a legal file. It is a way to keep the first clear view close to the moment when the truth was easiest to see. ## What counts A useful opening proof record usually has three pieces. - the outside package or seal before the contents are disturbed - the contents laid out once, including packing material when relevant - a short claim label such as charger missing, cracked corner, or seal already cut The photo does not have to be pretty. In fact, polished photos taken later are often weaker than a slightly messy first shot. The point is sequence, not presentation. ## When it is worth asking for Opening proof makes sense where missing-parts disputes are predictable: open-box electronics, used devices, camera kits, tool sets, collectibles with accessories, fragile goods, and sealed bundles where one absent piece changes the value. It is too heavy for low-value everyday items. If a platform asks for this on every small return, it turns normal shopping into suspicion. The better rule is narrow and visible: tell buyers before or right after purchase that opening photos may speed up support for certain categories. ## What it should not do Opening proof should not become an automatic denial rule. A buyer may miss the warning, open a gift later, have a family member receive the package, or lose the chance to photograph the seal. In those cases, support should ask for the next best evidence instead of treating the claim as false. The value of opening proof is that it reduces guessing. It gives buyers, sellers, and support staff one shared view of the package before everyone has a reason to defend themselves.
