A local availability note is a short record that explains whether a product can be bought online, picked up nearby, found in a specific store, or only requested from staff. It prevents one product page or feed value from being mistaken for every possible customer path. Google Merchant Center product data documentation treats attributes such as title, description, price, link, and availability as structured product information used for ads and free listings. Google also maintains local product data guidance for local inventory ads and free local listings. For a shop, this means availability should be written as a precise state, not as a vague promise that the item is “in stock” somewhere. A useful note includes product ID, store or location, channel, availability state, pickup rule, last checked time, source system, and exception. The exception field is important for display items, preorder items, staff-assembled bundles, damaged packaging, and products that are available for in-store sale but not shipping. The goal is to keep customer-facing pages, feeds, staff answers, and review replies aligned. If the feed says available but the branch cannot fulfill pickup, the issue is not only a feed problem. It is a source-of-truth problem.
