A friction note records a repeated small blocker that makes a personal workflow slower than it should be. It is different from a task. A task says what to do next. A friction note says why the same tiny delay keeps returning: a template is too long, a commute checklist is hard to update on mobile, a calendar title is vague, a daily note asks too many questions, or a work note has no clear place to land. The best friction note is short but specific. It names the trigger, the delay, the cost, and a possible small fix. For example: “After getting off the train, I forget which errands are near this station, so I need a location tag or one pinned note.” This is more useful than writing “improve task system.” The boundary is that not every annoyance needs a system redesign. Practical interpretation: collect friction notes for one week, then fix the two that repeat most often. Leave the rest alone until they become visible again.
