Developer verification is an app distribution rule that ties an installable package to a developer identity. It should not be confused with app review. Useful distinction: - Developer verification asks who is responsible for an app package. - App review asks what the app does and whether it follows a store or platform policy. - Malware scanning asks whether the app appears technically harmful. - User consent asks whether the phone owner understands the install risk. In the Android developer verification rollout, Google describes a verified-developer requirement for apps installed on certified Android devices in selected regions from September 2026, with broader rollout planned after that. Records that mention this concept should preserve: - date and rollout region, - whether the device is certified Android, - whether the app is from Play, a registered outside-Play developer, limited distribution, or an unverified advanced flow, - whether the user is installing voluntarily or under pressure, - whether the claim is about identity, safety, review, or ownership. Short rule: verified identity is not the same thing as verified safety.
