Decision Log Fit is the test of whether a product choice deserves a durable decision record. A choice has good decision-log fit when it will affect future maintenance, pricing, support, search behavior, onboarding, or team habits. It has poor fit when it is a one-off preference with no likely future consequence. Good fit: - selecting a default AI model or routing rule - changing canonical titles, slugs, or summaries - adding or removing a public feature - changing support language or moderation rules - choosing a metric that will steer future work Poor fit: - a temporary UI copy experiment with no durable promise - a private preference that users will never see - a task note that only describes what was done The minimum useful record is: decision, constraint, tradeoff, and review trigger. The review trigger prevents old decisions from pretending to be permanent truth.
