A correction trail is a short record of what was changed, why it was changed, and which source supports the new version. It helps readers distinguish source changes from writer mistakes. ## Use case Correction trails are useful for wiki edits, public notes, release note summaries, policy explanations, and product documentation comparisons. They prevent a correction from becoming a vague apology or an unexplained rewrite. ## Boundary A correction trail is not a full changelog. A changelog lists many edits over time. A correction trail focuses on one claim or one interpretation that changed. ## Practical interpretation A useful correction trail says: “Earlier note described the limit as daily. The current source says monthly. Updated after checking the pricing FAQ on June 22, 2026.” This tells the reader exactly what moved. ## Maintenance Keep the old claim visible enough to understand the correction, but do not repeat incorrect wording as if it were still valid. Link the current source and, when needed, an archived copy of the previous wording.
