A correction trail is a compact record of how a public claim changed after new evidence, a corrected source, a retraction, a newer version, or a better interpretation appeared. It keeps the final answer clean without hiding the route that changed it. The minimum fields are old claim, new claim, source that triggered the change, change date, affected records, and reason. The reason should be plain: stale source, retracted source, newer edition, narrowed scope, calculation error, translation error, or stronger primary source. This is different from a comment thread because it is designed for later citation and review. Correction trails are useful when readers may have seen the old answer. They are also useful when the older claim was not false but became incomplete. A support page may add a version boundary. A dataset may add a withdrawal marker. A DOI record may point to a correction or retraction. In each case, the trail should preserve enough context to explain why the current answer moved. A good correction trail does not dramatize the mistake. It records the changed claim, the supporting source, and the date so future readers can audit the update without replaying the whole discussion.
