# Cable Capability Label A cable capability label is a short visible note that says what a cable can safely be used for. It matters most when several cables share the same connector shape but do not share the same capabilities. USB-C is the common example: one cable may be good for phone charging, another for laptop charging, another for data transfer, and another for display or dock use. ## Useful fields - power range or maximum wattage when known - charger-only, data, display, dock, or mixed use - device class such as phone, tablet, laptop, monitor, camera, or storage drive - owner, room, or kit name for shared spaces - one warning if the cable should not be trusted for a common use ## Weak labels A weak label only repeats the connector name, brand, color, or purchase source. "USB-C" is not enough when the question is whether the cable can power a laptop or drive a display. ## Where it helps Cable capability labels are useful in coworking desks, meeting rooms, classrooms, camera kits, travel bags, repair benches, and households where several people borrow the same charger drawer. The label does not replace testing or safety certification. It reduces the chance that someone treats a compatible shape as a compatible job.
