A borrowed item tag is a small public note left in the place where a shared item normally belongs while the item is temporarily away. It should answer a narrow set of questions: what item is away, where it went, when it should return, which small parts went with it, and what the next person is allowed to do. The tag should use a public-safe clue such as a table, room, shelf, project group, or desk rather than private contact details. A good tag is not a full inventory sheet. It is a temporary absence record. It works best for shared tools, classroom supplies, library kits, kitchen equipment, bike-room adapters, and other items that people expect to find in a fixed place. Use a borrowed item tag when the absence affects the next user. Do not use it to track sensitive personal items, medical materials, private deliveries, or anything that should be handled by staff only. The tag should disappear when the item returns. If the tag stays after the item is back, it becomes clutter. If the item does not return by the stated time, the next step should be a manager or desk note, not a public accusation.
