An allergy fallback is a second visible route to food-safety information when the main menu, ordering app, kiosk, or QR page is hard to use. It should not depend on one fragile path such as a phone camera, weak network, untranslated image, payment screen, app install prompt, or busy staff member. Useful forms - printed allergen sheet - direct allergy button on the first QR menu screen - searchable text page - counter sign naming who can answer ingredient questions - plain-language explanation of menu icons - date of last allergen review - note about daily-changing sauces, oils, garnishes, or fryer use - clear instruction before payment or ordering starts What it protects The fallback helps guests who have allergies, dietary restrictions, medication conflicts, pregnancy restrictions, religious diet boundaries, language barriers, low battery, weak signal, accessibility needs, or unfamiliar local ingredients. Boundary An allergy fallback should not overpromise that an item is safe forever. It should show where to check, who can confirm, and when the information may have changed. Test Ask whether a guest can find current risk information before ordering. If the answer depends on scanning one code, installing one app, or catching one busy staff member, the fallback is too fragile.
