Station exit notes can save more time than a long list of attractions. This guide explains how short-trip planners can record exits, landmarks, elevator access, and covered walking so a route survives crowded stations and bad weather. ## Why exits matter Large stations can turn a five-minute walk into a fifteen-minute detour. The map may show the destination near the station, but the wrong exit can place the traveler across a road, below a department store, or outside without shelter. For short city trips, exit choice is part of the route, not a minor detail. ## What to record Write the station name, exit number or named gate, nearby landmark, elevator or escalator note, and whether the path is covered. If the traveler has luggage, add a locker or elevator fallback. If the group includes children or older travelers, avoid exits that require long stairs unless there is a clear alternative. ## Use landmarks, not only numbers Exit numbers can be confusing when language, construction, or station layout changes. Add a visible landmark: department store entrance, hotel lobby, museum sign, river side, bus terminal, or information desk. A landmark helps when the traveler cannot read signs quickly or when the route is shared with someone else. ## Add weather context For rainy days, record whether the exit leads directly outdoors or into a covered building. A slightly longer covered path may be better than a shorter exposed crossing. This is especially helpful around major stations where underground malls, skywalks, or station-connected buildings can change the route quality. ## Share the note clearly A good station note is short enough to read while walking: "Use Exit 3, elevator near bakery, covered path to mall, meet at information desk if separated." The note should not require opening three apps at the platform gate. ## Practical rule For every route with a timed booking or luggage, write the exit note before leaving the previous stop. The best exit is the one that reduces decisions at the moment the traveler is most distracted.
