Direction lock is especially useful when notes are shared by several people but edited through different devices. The problem is not only technical sync; it is unclear ownership. If everyone can edit from any stale copy, the newest upload may not be the best record. A practical shared-note lock starts with one source of truth. For example, the desktop document is the master for meeting minutes, the phone note is only a capture inbox, and the published checklist is read-only except for one owner. This keeps sync from becoming a hidden voting system where the last upload wins. The lock should be visible. Use title markers, folder names, app permissions, or a short header such as “master copy: desktop / edits close at 18:00.” This sounds simple, but it prevents a common mobile workflow failure: someone edits an old copy after the group already cleaned the document. Direction lock does not mean blocking collaboration. It means routing collaboration. Comments, suggestions, screenshots, and quick captures can still arrive from mobile, but final write access stays narrow until the record is stable. The best use cases are travel plans, class notes, meeting summaries, shopping lists with prices, product copy, and support scripts. Anything that becomes a reference deserves a source boundary before automatic sync spreads mistakes.
