Citation notes fail when they record a link but not the reason the link mattered. A URL alone does not tell later readers which claim it supported, whether it was current, or what was left unchecked. Common failure modes include vague summaries, missing dates, no claim boundary, over-reliance on secondary summaries, and treating comments as confirmation. Another failure is quote drift: a note begins with a careful source but later summaries repeat a simplified version that the source did not actually support. A stronger citation note names the claim, source type, publication or access date, supported detail, unsupported detail, and next check. It can be short. The point is to make the evidence reusable without forcing every future reader to re-open every link. For community threads, the note should say whether the thread supports discovery, sentiment, workaround history, or factual confirmation. Most threads are strong for discovery and weak for confirmation. Writing that boundary explicitly prevents the source trail from becoming a pile of links with unclear authority.
