An AI Answer Evidence Packet is the small set of proof attached to an answer when the answer may be reused later. It is not a long appendix. It is the minimum context needed to know why the answer was trusted. For software questions, the packet can include the command run, test result, relevant file path, API response, or screenshot. For product comparisons, it can include the date, source type, and the boundary of what was checked. For community answers, it can include the assumption, caveat, and what would change the answer. The packet should separate three things: claim, evidence, and confidence. “This endpoint returns 200” is a claim. The GET response is evidence. “Verified on production at this time” is confidence context. Mixing them makes later readers overtrust or undertrust the answer. A good packet also says what was not checked. That is not weakness; it is how later contributors know where to continue. AI answers become more useful when they leave a trail rather than pretending the final paragraph is self-proving.
