Hotel luggage storage is the simplest checkout-day option when the traveler expects to come back through the same area before departure. It works because the drop point is already known, staff can usually tag the bag, and the traveler does not need to solve a station locker problem while tired or under time pressure. The first checkpoint is return path. Hotel storage is useful only if the final route naturally returns to the hotel or passes close enough that the detour is small. If the traveler checks out in the morning, spends the day across town, and then needs a train from a different station, hotel storage can turn into a late-day backtrack. A map check should include walking time, transfer time, and buffer time with the bag after pickup. The second checkpoint is desk reliability. Ask whether luggage storage is available after checkout, whether there is a pickup deadline, whether staff are present at the hour needed, and whether the bag gets a claim tag. Small guesthouses, unmanned stays, capsule hotels, and late-night departures may not provide the same storage reliability as a full-service hotel. The third checkpoint is bag type. Hotel storage is better for oversized suitcases, fragile items, multiple bags, or mixed luggage that would be awkward in a locker. It is not automatically safer for valuables. Passports, cards, medicine, electronics, and irreplaceable items should stay with the traveler unless the hotel has a formal safe process. The fourth checkpoint is weather and activity type. If the last day includes rain, stairs, markets, museums, or food stops, avoiding luggage movement can be worth a small detour. If the last day is mostly transit-facing, moving the bag toward the station earlier may be better. The practical hotel-storage rule is: use the hotel when it is on the natural return line, the desk hours are clear, and the luggage is awkward for lockers. Avoid it when it forces a separate return trip that competes with the departure buffer.
