Affiliate Link Fit Note is a short record explaining why an affiliate offer belongs in a specific article, video, newsletter, or creator funnel. Affiliate revenue can be useful, but it creates trust risk when links appear only because they pay. A fit note protects the creator from mixing every product mention into a monetization opportunity. It asks whether the offer matches the audience problem, the content intent, the buyer stage, and the creator’s ability to explain tradeoffs. The first check is intent. A visitor comparing tools, planning a purchase, or solving a specific problem can tolerate a relevant affiliate link if the recommendation is transparent. A visitor reading a personal essay, quick news update, or beginner explanation may not be ready for a commercial path. The second check is specificity. The link should map to a concrete use case, not a generic “best product” claim. The third check is downside disclosure: limitations, alternatives, pricing caveats, availability, or cases where the product is not a fit. The fourth check is revenue dependency. If an article only makes sense because of the commission, it may slowly distort editorial judgment. If the link is one of several possible next steps, and the content would still be useful without it, the fit is stronger. The fifth check is maintenance. Product pages, prices, stock, commission terms, and policies change. A fit note should include a recheck date or trigger. The practical rule: affiliate links work best when they extend the reader’s intent, not when they replace the content’s judgment. The creator should be able to explain why the link is there even if no commission existed.
