A return counter can create confusion with two words that sound close: eligible and available. A customer asks, “Can I get my money back?” The staff sees a screen that says store credit is available. Those are not the same state. Refund eligible means the original payment can still be reversed under the current rule. Store credit available means the store can offer value inside the store system. Exchange allowed means the product can be replaced. Return received means the item is physically back. These states may overlap, but they should not collapse into one green label. The problem gets worse in public replies. “You are eligible for return support” sounds helpful but may hide whether cash refund, credit, or exchange is actually possible. A reusable support record should name the exact state. If the money path is closed but store credit is open, say that. If the item is received but refund review is pending, say that. The customer may still be unhappy, but at least the next conversation starts from the same state instead of a softer word.
