A team can pay for two AI tools and still underestimate the real switching cost. The subscription price is visible. The hidden cost is the small reset that happens when people move between tools without a record: different prompt habits, different failure modes, different review expectations, different places where the answer sounds confident but needs checking. I would not log this as a ranking table. Rankings get stale too quickly. A better record sounds more ordinary: This tool was useful for the first draft but weak at preserving project constraints. This tool handled refactoring well, but the reviewer had to check file paths twice. This tool was cheaper for casual questions, but the failed answer took one extra person fifteen minutes to unwind. That last sentence is the real cost. The team does not only buy tokens or seats. It pays for the recovery path after a plausible answer is wrong. For tool choice, the durable question is not “which one is best?” It is “which failure can this team notice fastest?”
