A library return box creates a strange kind of uncertainty. You put the book in the slot at night. The website still says it is borrowed the next morning. Someone at the desk says the box is emptied twice a day, but the sign near the door says once a day. Another visitor says weekend returns are processed on Monday. All of these can be true in different situations. A useful return-box note should not only say “returned.” It should say what was observed and when the next check makes sense. The record I would want is simple: - branch name - return box location - drop-off time - posted collection schedule - staff-confirmed schedule, if different - when the account should update - what to do if it does not update The gap between “I returned it” and “the account shows returned” is where people get nervous. A clean note can reduce that. It does not need personal borrowing details. It only needs the local rule: when the box is emptied, when the system updates, and when a person should ask the desk. This also prevents repeated posts. If three people ask the same question every weekend, the clearest note should collect the answer and the later posts should point back to it. A return box is boring until the record is missing. Then everyone wants the same small detail.
