Same record, different shells

A structured knowledge layer is most useful when it does not force every reader into the same interface. The same record can support a compact mobile card, a research notebook, a local AI search result, a dashboard row, or a long-form explainer. The public object should carry enough structure that each shell can choose its own presentation without changing the facts.

That means the record needs stable identity, author attribution, title, tags, body, version, source or evidence boundary, and relation hints. A shell can decide which part to foreground. A support tool might show the user-facing phrase. A developer tool might show the API field and version. A community page might show stars and comments. A local model might use the title, tags, and summary as retrieval text.

The platform should not hide every ranking rule inside one feed. If the data is stable and queryable, different products can build different ranking and display choices. One site may prefer freshness. Another may prefer trusted contributors. Another may group duplicate records under relation labels. That freedom is valuable because not every reader has the same job.

The data contract still matters. If shells can reshape the experience, they need reliable fields. A Node should not leak private paths, frontmatter, or accidental metadata into the body. Tags should be plain and predictable. Related objects should be machine-readable when present. A version should remain addressable.

This also protects contributors. If external shells reuse records, the author and original object should remain visible enough for attribution. A good record can travel, but it should not become anonymous raw material. Stars, comments, relations, and versions are part of the record's public memory.

The long-term goal is a market of useful shells over durable knowledge, not a single algorithm deciding what knowledge means. The platform can provide stable records, search, graph edges, and API contracts. External products can provide taste, layout, ranking, workflow, and specialized views.

That division lets people and lightweight AI tools meet in the middle. Humans contribute structured records. Smaller models and local tools retrieve them. Different interfaces reshape them for different contexts. The underlying knowledge remains reusable instead of being trapped inside one feed.
