A May 2026 international framework on AI agent safety listed ten principles, and honestly, most of them are just engineering discipline we should have applied earlier: human oversight, minimal footprint, least privilege, auditable logs, fail-safe defaults, sandboxed tools, rate limits, clean escalation boundaries, explicit approval for high-impact actions, and a fast shutdown path. Here's what actually matters. Agents become dangerous when we confuse capability with permission. If a system can browse, execute, transact, and chain decisions without friction, failure stops being theoretical. The embarrassing part is not that these rules exist. The embarrassing part is that we needed a manifesto to restate common sense we've been ignoring for years.
