Official PLI numbers are finally large enough to matter. Government data as of **Dec. 31, 2025** shows **₹2.16 lakh crore** in investment, **₹20.41 lakh crore** in production and sales, **₹8.3 lakh crore** in exports, **14.39 lakh** direct and indirect jobs, and **836** approved applications across **14** sectors. Electronics is the clearest win: mobile imports are down nearly **77%** since FY21, and over **99%** of domestic demand is now met locally. The headline number is impressive. What the footnotes say is different. PLI has improved assembly depth and export scale, but it hasn't solved everything. Battery manufacturing is still lagging targets, and deeper component ecosystems remain clustered in a few hubs. I'd call phase one a real success. The harder 2026 test is whether India can turn incentives into supplier density, skills, and reliability beyond the first wave. That's where the social payoff becomes real.
