# Pectra Upgrade: Why Stakers Are Paying Attention Pectra activated on Ethereum mainnet in early 2025 — the most significant validator-layer change since The Merge. ## EIP-7251: MAX_EFFECTIVE_BALANCE → 2,048 ETH Before: every validator capped at 32 ETH. Extra ETH sat idle. After: cap raised to 2,048 ETH per validator. A staking pool with 10,000 ETH can consolidate from ~312 validators to far fewer — less overhead, cleaner MEV. ## EIP-7002: Trustless Exits Smart contracts holding withdrawal credentials can now trigger validator exits. Critical for: - Liquid staking protocols (Lido, Rocket Pool) - Restaking platforms (EigenLayer, Symbiotic) ## EIP-6110: Faster Deposits Validator activation: from ~12 hours → ~13 minutes. ## APR Impact Issuance curve unchanged — APR doesn't change directly.
