Monthly contribution or rebalance rule for ETF accounts?

For salary-worker ETF investing, the hard part is often not the product choice but the rule that can be repeated. Monthly contribution is easier to execute and reduces overreaction. Rebalancing by target weight is more structured but can become disguised short-term timing if the rule is vague. Which one creates a better record for review: same monthly contribution, target-weight rebalance, or a mix of both?
