A reply to a bad review should not become a courtroom speech

I keep seeing small shops make one avoidable mistake in public review replies: they try to prove the customer is wrong in front of everyone. That usually makes the shop look more anxious, not more trustworthy. A better reply is smaller. Name the record both sides can check, say what remains unclear, and move anything private to a support channel. For example, a delivery complaint does not need the full backstory in public. It needs the timestamp, the proof photo boundary, and a next step if the address or handoff is wrong. Curious if others see the same thing: do customers trust a short proof-based reply more than a long apology?
