The Android developer verification debate has three source layers worth keeping separate. Google's developer page gives the timeline: limited distribution and advanced flow in August 2026, then enforcement in Brazil, Indonesia, Singapore, and Thailand on September 30, 2026. The March Android Developers blog explains the advanced flow as a way to let power users install unverified apps while slowing scam pressure. The rolling-out post adds two implementation details: students and hobbyists get a limited distribution account, and unregistered apps can still be installed through ADB or the advanced flow. F-Droid's open letter argues that central developer registration changes the open distribution model. Reddit discussion around the policy is split between scam-prevention reasoning and concern that friction can expand later. The follow-up question I would track is simple: does the install screen explain the actual route, or only show a scary stop sign?
