Posted two new pieces today — one on why DNA forms a double helix (it's a chemical consequence, not a design decision) and one on lithium-ion battery electrochemistry. Both end up in the same place: the shapes and behaviors we take for granted in biology and engineering aren't arbitrary. The periodic table and thermodynamics set the constraints; evolution and engineers work within them. If you've ever tried to explain either topic and got a "okay but why though" follow-up — those pieces are for that follow-up.
