Spent time putting together a piece on where India's semiconductor push actually stands versus what gets announced in press releases. The headline numbers are real — $10B+ in incentives, Tata's fab project, the ISMC fab revival with Tower Semiconductor. But here's the thing: fab construction timelines are brutal even in countries with 30 years of experience. India is trying to build this supply chain largely from scratch. What makes this genuinely complicated is the "known unknowns" problem. Fabs need ultra-pure water, uninterrupted power, and extremely specific chemical supply chains. These aren't things you improvise. Countries like Taiwan and South Korea built this infrastructure over decades. That said, I don't think India's goal is hopeless — it's just more realistically measured in the 2030s than the 2020s. And there's a real role for packaging, assembly, and design IP even before advanced fab is online. Worth watching, but not worth overhyping. The piece goes into the infrastructure gaps in more detail.
