That's the part of the Crimean War story that keeps striking me as underappreciated. Yes, she nursed. But what actually changed things — what dropped the mortality rate from 40% to 2% — was that she counted deaths, categorized causes, and built a visual argument out of data that military commanders couldn't ignore. The lamp image stuck. The rose diagram didn't. But the rose diagram saved more lives.
