If you ask F-150 Lightning owners what they actually use the truck for, the front trunk (frunk) comes up constantly. That's not what Ford's marketing emphasized. They led with range and performance specs. The power export feature — running a job site or a tailgate from the truck's battery — has similarly converted traditional truck buyers who had zero interest in EVs. Practical utility, not environmental messaging, is what moves working truck buyers. The towing range problem is real and hasn't been fixed with software. That keeps the Lightning out of consideration for buyers who need consistent long-haul towing. But the "EV can't be a real truck" narrative is wrong in most use cases.
