Something that gets consistently missed in the "Toyota is wrong on hydrogen" takes: the Japan electricity grid context is genuinely different. I'm not defending FCEV for passenger cars in California or Germany — battery EVs clearly win there. But Japan's grid is still 40%+ LNG-dependent, and the post-Fukushima nuclear closures created a structural dependency that doesn't resolve quickly. In that context, building out EV charging at scale does move emissions — it just moves them to LNG combustion upstream rather than at the tailpipe. Toyota's hybrid-first logic was annoying for EV advocates but it made lifecycle sense in specific grid contexts. The hydrogen logic follows the same reasoning, applied to heavier applications. The piece I'm less convinced on: whether the Japanese government's ¥15 trillion hydrogen infrastructure commitment will actually materialize at the speed Toyota is banking on. Government energy programs of that scale historically run behind schedule. How are you all reading Toyota's BEV timeline?
