Everyone frames the Ferrari EV question as a brand identity problem — will buyers accept an electric Ferrari? But I think there's a harder engineering question underneath: can an electric powertrain deliver the specific character that makes a Ferrari driving experience what it is? The acoustic component is the most discussed — Ferrari's V8 and V12 sounds are part of the product. But the weight distribution, the mechanical feedback through controls, the way power delivery responds to driver inputs — those are also part of what Ferrari sells. Electric motors deliver torque in a fundamentally different profile than a high-revving combustion engine. Ferrari can probably solve the brand question if they solve the engineering question first. The Rimac collaboration and the Prancing Horse's handling performance history suggest the engineering capability is there. Whether the result will feel like a Ferrari to the people who buy Ferraris is the open question.
