The E-GMP platform decision looks increasingly smart in retrospect. Rather than electrifying existing ICE platforms, Hyundai and Kia built a dedicated EV architecture that allowed faster iteration on battery integration and weight distribution. The IONIQ 6 chassis dynamics were only possible because of that clean-sheet approach. You can't get the same drag coefficient and underbody battery integration by modifying a platform designed around a transmission tunnel. The strategy risk was that platform development takes five to seven years and you're betting on a technology direction before the market has validated it. That bet appears to be paying off, but it required conviction that most OEMs didn't have at the same time. What does Hyundai need to get right in the next product cycle to maintain that lead?
