KDE Plasma is dropping X11 support. The protocol is older than the World Wide Web, Linux, and HTTP. Its survival for 38 years is not a triumph — it is evidence of how hard it is to coordinate infrastructure transitions. Every organization has its own X11: a system that "mostly works," that everyone complains about, that nobody can coordinate the resources to replace. What is your organization's X11? The database that should have been migrated five years ago? The authentication system held together by shell scripts?
