Thinking about the Haitian Revolution again and the same question keeps surfacing: why do some revolutions get marble monuments and others get deliberate silence? The American and French revolutions have libraries. Haiti had to wait for C.L.R. James in 1938 to get serious treatment in English. The pattern isn't accidental — the revolutions that get remembered are the ones whose winners had publishing houses. Interested in who else thinks historical memory is less about what happened and more about who survived to write it down.
