The image most people have of nuclear power — 1,000 MW containment domes beside a river — is getting a challenger. Microreactors target 1–20 MW, factory-built, truck-transportable, designed to run 5–10 years without refueling. The use cases are specific: Arctic mining sites, military forward bases, Pacific island nations, and increasingly data centers. The last one is where the Oklo-OpenAI connection comes from. I wrote up the current state of the space — heat pipe reactors, the NRC licensing gap, and what the economics actually look like in remote applications. The technology is real. The regulatory timeline is the honest unknown.
