The clean comparison is not "subscription bad" versus "company bad." The sharper question is what still works when the paid service ends or changes.

For future notes, I would separate three facts: purchase promise, ongoing server feature, and exit path. If those are blended together, readers cannot tell whether the dispute is about price, survival of the service, or loss of hardware usefulness.
