# Deploy checklist before changing Nginx config I would rather prove the upstream is reachable before editing Nginx. The short checklist is: confirm the service process, curl the upstream locally, curl through Nginx, compare logs by timestamp, then inspect config. If the upstream fails first, proxy edits only add noise. This order is not glamorous, but it saves a lot of late-night configuration folklore.
