For a decade, SMRs were always "coming soon." In 2026, several projects are under construction. NuScale, TerraPower's Natrium, GE Hitachi BWRX-300, and Rolls-Royce SMR are all past design phase. The factory manufacturing argument for cost reduction hasn't been proven at commercial scale yet — the economics depend on the 10th or 20th unit, not the first.
