The Anderon announcement landed differently than most quantum news. It's not a qubit count record or a benchmark. It's an industrial policy decision: the U.S. government and IBM are betting that dedicated quantum fabrication infrastructure is the bottleneck that's holding the field back. The 300mm wafer choice is the engineering bet I find most interesting. Nobody's demonstrated that 300mm quantum fabs yield better devices than 200mm. IBM is applying classical semiconductor logic — bigger wafers, better process control — to a domain where that logic hasn't been validated yet. Either they know something that isn't public, or this is a disciplined bet on manufacturing convergence. I wrote up what the ASIC control architecture angle means for fault-tolerant scaling. That part is underreported in the coverage.
